Cosmetics and skin care products for men
« on: October 04, 2014, 06:54:05 PM »
I would like to talk you through cosmetics and skin care products for men. As a cosmetologist I get more and more men asking for skin care advice and cosmetics advice. Having read much of the advice on this forum, I can only say that this forum is doing a huge favor to all men out there who need the right advice for the many questions that are arising. I was actually directed to this forum by one of my male customers who had been reading this forum too. So yeah thanks guys ;)

So I would like to add my piece of advice on mens skin care products. I have seen the way you format articles in this forum but please could any moderators format it if I haven't done it right? Thanks :)

To start with, as a woman, I often feel sad for men who cannot use makeup to mask their blemishes without risking someone finding out and ridiculing them. Makeup is an easy way to cover up acne, acne scars, or an uneven complexion. The stereotype that only women can wear makeup is silly and out-dated; a man should be able to use these beauty products too. Of course, society still looks down upon men who wear makeup, so I began to look for subtle makeup products specifically designed for men.

Skin Care Cosmetics for Men - Cleansers, Masks and Moisturizers
These men's beauty products are perfectly acceptable, and cannot be detected unless someone finds them while snooping through your bathroom. Cleansers, masks, and moisturizers help keep your skin soft and smooth and your complexion even.

Shaving Personal Care Products for Men
Shaving is an accepted grooming practice for men, but the shaving supplies available from men's cosmetic companies go beyond simple shave gels. There are plenty of shaving products for men, and I have seen some great recommendations in this forum. Whatever shaving products you buy, try to make sure that they don't contain ingredients that are detrimental to your skin, such as wax or oil.

Concealer and Foundation for Men
Now we move into more uncharted territory of men's cosmetic products-visible makeup. There are companies who advertises their liquid foundation products as undetectable and not looking like makeup. A concealer is recommended for covering up minor blemishes and uneven skin coloration. The natural skin color blends with the makeup, eliminating most visible evidence of the foundation. They also offer a concealer stick for men to help cover up larger blemishes. If you look around, you will be able to find a wide variety of cream foundations and face powders for men.

Face Contouring Cosmetics for Men
These products are essentially blusher, but they are advertised as face-contouring or structure-defining, putting emphasis on the more defined look that men's faces have compared to women. There are companies out there that have several shades of powder blush and face bronzers. These products can help make facial features look narrower, and also enhance collar bone, chest, and abdomen areas.

Eye Enhancing Cosmetics for Men
Eye-and brow-cosmetics for men are great for shaping the hair just above the eye, also known as eyebrow hair. It can only be a good thing if more men get the courage to subtly pluck or wax any overly hairy eyebrows too. There are eye pencils to help men add definition to their eyes and fill in thin eyebrows. They advertise a lash and brow tint which appears to be mascara, but less dark and thick. The idea is to help men create a defined, clean look to their faces, while still being subtle. There is also eye shadow available for men who are more daring with their makeup, although the description suggests that it is a fairly noticeable product, unlike their others.

The Changing Views of Men and Make Up
Several popular websites offering advice and content of interest to men have published articles about the growing popularity of make up in men. Some of the men surveyed were in favor of men wearing make up, claiming that it is part of being a sophisticated man today. Other men are wary of the concept. At the least, men should feel comfortable using masks, moisturizers, and high quality shaving products to keep their skin healthy.
