Male Grooming Tips for a Great Look
« on: August 18, 2014, 10:57:39 AM »
Here are some male grooming tips that cover the main important parts of the body when dressed: hair, facial hair, teeth, lips and hands. The tips are especially useful for those of you who are in a business environment or otherwise need to look dapper.

Hair
Starting with the hair, although today's fashion freedom allows for a wide range of hairstyles, there are several factors that still must be considered. First, regardless of style, your hair must be trimmed and groomed. The back of the neck must be clear of hair. It also must be clean, free of dandruff and without excessive hair treatments, such as mousse, or other control products.

If you are suffering from male hair loss , then it is best that you keep your hair short. If your balding is very visible, the just get a buzz cut. If you are under 35, then you can also choose a trendy mens hairstyle but make sure that the hairstyle is in synch with the environment and setting.

Facial Hair
Facial hair, if existing, should also be neatly trimmed and groomed , especially around the edges and lip line. If you don't have your stylist trim your beard or mustache, buy a home hair cutting kit and use one of the extension attachments to give your beard a uniform appearance.

This next part is the one that most men ignore or forget about. Hair grows in the most unlikely places, but must also be cared for. Eyebrows need trimming, just like the beard. If they grow together, create a clean break along the ridge of the nose. Then, brush the eyebrows up toward the forehead and trim all hairs that extend beyond the line of the eyebrow with scissors. Nose hair and ear hair can be trimmed with one of those little battery operated trimmers. Encountering someone with untrimmed nose hair and eyebrows resembling a cave man can be a most distracting, even frightening sight to a first date.

While still on the face, do a close-up exam of your face for pimples, blackheads or any other blemish. Remove and treat with an astringent or anti-blemish cream. Don't forget to check the back of your neck during this exam.

Teeth
Your teeth and smile are probably the first things noticed upon a first meeting, so the teeth must be clean, white and the breath absolutely must be pleasant. If you don't have your teeth checked and cleaned at least twice annually, you should. Brushing two, even three times daily with an electric toothbrush is a good habit to form. Flossing will keep your gums healthy and prevent food buildup between your teeth which is not only unsightly, but a leading cause of decay and gum disease. If you are not blessed with pearly whites, invest in whitening strips and use daily.

Just before leaving for your first meeting, brush your teeth, rinse with a mouthwash and do a last minute visual inspection to insure nothing foreign is stuck between your teeth. As you approach the meeting door, give your breath a last minute boost with a spray breath freshener. Avoid those solid, little breath mints, as many will coat your tongue with a strange, unnatural color and, unless totally dissolved or swallowed, will affect you speech.

Lips
Lips on men tend to get chapped, especially in winter. Women have the advantage of a regular coating of lipstick, so to combat dryness, cracking and an unpleasant appearance, use a lip balm.

Hands
Moving down to the only other body parts that should be showing, the hands are quite often washed once or twice a day and forgotten. Remember, this is one of those annoying details that make or break your chances of success, so no whining, ok? First, cleanliness is next to Godliness, so make certain the hands are squeaky clean...everywhere. The nails are trimmed evenly and cleanly, with only about 1/8" of white showing. Cuticles must be clean and, if needed, trimmed by a trained professional. Skip the buffing, as this will give the wrong impression. Do not attempt to trim cuticles unless you have perfected your technique, as this will, more often than not, result in butchered and painful hands. If you have calloused or dry skin, a man's hand cream will restore moisture, diminish the damage and restore appearance.

Go get them tiger! ;)

Very good tips! As a cosmetologist, I can recognize good grooming advice for men, and yours is. I think above all skin care is so important for guys. If you don't mind I am posting below my list of grooming tips which I also posted in my grooming tips thread . So it adds to your tips ;)

In this day and age, it is important to look good and important to know how to impress. So here are 6 grooming tips for men, for whether you want to be successful in the dating or business world, it doesn't matter. What matters is taking care of yourself when it comes to your physical appearance and impression you give to others.

Grooming Tip 1:
Skin care - it's important that your skin looks good. Simple products such as face wash, facial scrub, and lotion can really make a difference. Know your skin type so you can choose the right product for you; if you have oily skin you should use an oil free moisturizer, or if you have sensitive skin look for products with sun protection. A well groomed man should always have a clean and clear complexion.

Grooming Tip 2:
Eyes - whether you are just aging or you were out late the night before, your eyes say everything. It's a good idea to use an eye cream to get rid of puffiness. Nivea has a couple of products out there especially for men.

Grooming Tip 3:
Shaving - one of the most important things a man needs to learn is how to shave properly. You should shave after a shower or use plenty of hot water. Make sure you also use a quality razor, not a disposable one. Also use a good quality shave cream and apply it with a shave brush. Shave with the grain and always use a non alcohol balm to finish.

Grooming Tip 4:
Hygiene - Men, please shower every morning and additionally as necessary. There is nothing worse than that disgusting male body odor that takes over the room. Use a body wash and not just regular soap to avoid drying out your skin. Also use a good deodorant that is an antiperspirant; this will help regulate sweat throughout the day. In addition, pick good smelling cologne, such as Eternity by Calvin Klein, to keep you smelling fresh. If you have a small budget then get the Cigar Perfume for Men by Remy Latour .

Grooming Tip 5:
Hair - another thing important for grooming is of course, your hair. Pick a style that suits both your face and hair type. Book an appointment at a salon, not a local barber. Eyebrow grooming is also a plus. I know you men cringe at the thought of this, but it will polish off that guy groom look! In addition make sure you are using a good quality shampoo and conditioner.

Grooming Tip 6:
Teeth - everyone notices a killer smile, so make sure you are brushing your teeth twice a day and also use mouthwash. In addition brush your tongue; this will keep your breath smelling fresh for longer.
