Makeup Guide for Men with Tips and Pictures
« on: June 25, 2015, 01:30:18 PM »
I'd like to post this makeup guide for men with tips. Male grooming is becoming increasingly trendy, so I hope that you find useful the following makeup tips for guys.

I will also be posting in this guide the different makeup styles for men with pictures. I believe that posting pictures will give you a better idea of what can be achieved with the tips that are below in this guide.

I will say though that these tips are not just your average tips. Rather, I'm a cosmetologist and I have a thing for the Goth and darker side of music, which has been (believe it or not) the foundation for the increase in demand of male makeup for the general male public. I've worked with some Goth music bands and done their makeup and I can tell you that if you can follow these tips, then the rest of makeup that you can use as a guy will be very easy to apply and combine! :)

Makeup Tips for Men:

As base for your makeup, I always suggest the white or natural pressed powder or foundation, it depends on your habits. For those guys who have got a mustache or a thick full beard , it would be better not to exaggerate with the foundation and the eyeshadow.

For example, I suggest to make just a black line under the eyes, or also over the eye. If you want to use the eye shadow you can, but apply it just to cover a small part. Then if you want to create a really particular makeup definition, you can also draw something on your forehead or cheeks, or apply some glitters and strass too. Usually I suggest this kind of particular makeup for men who haven't got a mustache or who haven't got a full beard with a mustache , or if their mustache or beard are very thin, otherwise a heavy makeup wouldn't look good. The same thing applies for lipstick: never use male lipstick if you've got beard or a big mustache !

Use every color for every season, just don't use light colors. If you do want to use them, it would be better to mix them with some darker colors, for example mixing yellow with grey or black. It isn't important what kind of hair color or hairstyle you've got, even if I personally (as a cosmetologist) love short hair for men or hair that reaches the ears as a maximum hair length.

When you decide to apply the lipstick and the eye shadow, try not to use the same colors. For example, use a dark red lipstick with a black eye shadow or use a purple eye shadow with a black lipstick and so on. However, the following is very important! Never use the black lipstick alone if you haven't got a skinny face, it would be better to use the black pencil and apply a lighter color (red for example) over it.

As for the tools, well, usually use the fingers (to apply the eye-shadow) is more than enough when you want to cover a big part of the eye and you don't want the spread of the eye shadow to be regular. Use make-up brushes in different sizes if you have to make some lines under or above the eyes, close to the nose and when you need precision for your men's makeup. The tools for the lipstick varies, but usually the actual lipstick bar will do just fine.

This men's makeup guide continues below on the next post.

« Reply #1 on: June 25, 2015, 01:42:50 PM »
Now, let's go through the different men's makeup styles from regular makeup to Goth makeup!

Red Evil makeup style for men:
- Lipstick (as eye shadow): Lapiz De Labios Pretty 180
- Pressed powder: Star Gazer – white
- Black pencil

Apply the pressed powder on your face, apply the lipstick on your eyelids and draw a black line over and under your eyes. Apply the black pencil on your lips.

Gothic Sadness makeup style for men:
All you need to create this makeup is a black eyeliner. Draw a thick line over the eye and continue a bit after the outer corner. Draw another line under the eye and a third starting in the middle of the line under the eyes and continuing towards the cheek.

Chaotic makeup style for men:
- Eyeshadow: Manic Panic - black
- Black eyeliner
- Black lipstick

Start with the black eye-shadow and apply it from the inner corner of the eye and outwards. Apply it under the eye as well and then draw some kind of twigs as in the picture. Draw a line over and under the eye with the eyeliner and apply the black lipstick.

Black Rays makeup style for men:
You will only need your black eyeliner to do this makeup.

Draw a line over and one under both your eyes. For the left eye continue the line outwards. For the right draw 8 lines downwards starting at the inner corner and finishing at the outer corner of the eye.

Vampire Red makeup style for men:
All you need is a red lip pencil, we suggest "Vampire red" by Manic Panic.

Draw a line under the eyes, and continue a little bit after the outer corner. Draw a line over the eyes too, but only a short one close to the outer corner.

Black eye liner makeup for men and using male lipstick.
« Reply #2 on: June 25, 2015, 01:58:05 PM »
Black Eye Liner makeup style for men:
All you will need for this makeup style is a black pencil!

This is the easiest makeup you can choose. It's perfect if you are a beginner or if you don't want anything too visible. Just take a black pencil and draw a line under your eyes. Continue the line for a little after the outer corner of the eyes.

Circle Black Eye Liner makeup style for men:
Just take a black pencil and draw a kind of circle around your eyes. This is very quick and simple, perfect for beginners.

Scary Look makeup style for men:
First apply some white foundation or powder on your face, be careful with this (not like the guy in the picture!). Then apply the black pencil around the eyes and use the black eyeliner for the final touch (the vertical lines). Apply the black pencil on your lips as well.

Obsessed Look makeup style for men:
- White foundation
- Red/pinkish eyeshadow
- Red lipstick

First of all apply the white foundation on your face. If your skin is a little oily, add some white powder as well. Then take the red eyeshadow and apply it over and under your eyes, do this several times until you get a strong color as in the picture. Finally apply the lipstick.

Blind Gothic makeup style for men:
- Black eyeshadow
- Black pencil

Apply the black eyeshadow all around your eyes. Draw a line that "cuts" your eye like in the picture, only over one of your eyes.

Still using the black pencil, draw a vertical line from the edge of your lower lip down through your chin.

Supreme makeup style for men:
- Pressed powder: Natural
- Eye shadow: Manic Panic (Raven)
- Black pencil

Apply a bit of grey eye shadow on your lips. Apply the black pencil over and under your eyes and from here go on toward the inner corner. Then make a point on this inner part, draw a line and go on with this until the middle of your lids. Draw two lines from the outer corner of your eyes and downwards (look at the pic).

The Evil Garden makeup style for men:
Just use your black eyeliner and try to follow the design on the picture!

Batman makeup style for men:
This one is a bonus! Use all the tips and advice from the other make-up styles and try to get this Batman makeup style. It's not easy, but if you practice the other styles, you'll get it in no time! :)
